Antonia San Juan Short Bio
Born on the 22nd March 1961, in Las Palmas, Canary Islands. At nineteen she moves to Madrid. She starts her career as actress on the zarzuelas and classic repertoire, such as "Fuenteovejuna", with the theatre collective Grupo Agora. When thirty years old, and after a professional crisis, she starts directing her own shows. Gains notoriety on stage with the monologue "Otras Mujeres", staged in bars, parties, clubs, pubs, theatres, and any other place where there's an audience. It is in this show that Director Pedro Almodóvar meets Antonia and invites her for a screen test for "Todo Sobre mi Madre". In January 2000 she creates her own theatre production company, continues staging "Otras Mujeres" and directs a new show, "Hombres... Y Alguma Mujer", in which she refines a very personal style experienced in the previous production, but now played by a male actor, Luis Miguel Seguí. She continues her career as actress in important feature films such as "Ataque Verbal", "Asfalto", "Piedras" or "Octavia". In 2001 she directs her first film, the short "V.O.", staring herself and Luis Miguel Seguí, and is currently working on her next film project, "La China".
